| All
Aggression Management Courses comprise the following five elements:
1. Approach
and Awareness
Students learn how to recognize potential problems via verbal and
physical clues, using heightened awareness and intuitive skills
developed on the course. Attitude, confidence, and ability become
controlling forces in threatening situations.
2. Appropriateness
and Controlling Force
The legal requirement for the use of minimum force will be described,
and consequences of non-compliance discussed. Students learn to
recognize and condition their response to any situation with the
appropriate reaction. The objective is to pacify and not confront
in the first instance. Our police academy clients, for example,
have successfully pioneered the use of these tactics in Europe which
are part of their training syllabus for all male and female officers.
3. Non
Physical Aggression Management
Students are taught how to verbally defuse potentially aggressive
situations using simple psychologically proven methods. Empathy,
sympathy, and persuasion are the key principles, as well as understanding
how emotion affects communication.
4. The
Physical Techniques
Simple techniques, essentially easy to both learn and to apply will
be taught. Unlike the majority of defence and control techniques,
the methods used will not rely upon physical size or strength, nor
will they cause unacceptable harm to the subject. They will make
use of the vital or vulnerable areas of the human body to bring
about compliant behaviour. However, in a life-threatening situation
they can be used effectively to gain immediate control and end the
danger.
5. Training
and Reinforcement
Understanding the core principles of this course will lead to the
promotion of personal development in terms of confidence and intellectual
& emotional maturity. Reinforcement of the verbal, physical
and emotional skills will enable students to benefit in all facets
of life.
